About Jacques-Cartier Park
Jacques-Cartier Park is a 22-hectare waterfront park on the Gatineau side of the Ottawa River, directly across from downtown Ottawa. With Parliament Hill views, a marina, and its role as the home of Winterlude's Snowflake Kingdom and a prime Canada Day celebration site, it's one of the most important event parks in the National Capital Region.
The park is a short walk across the Alexandra Bridge from the National Gallery of Canada, and sits near the Canadian Museum of History.
Winterlude — Snowflake Kingdom
During Winterlude (late January to mid-February), Jacques-Cartier Park hosts Snowflake Kingdom — described as North America's largest snow playground.
Activities include:
- Snow tube sliding on multiple lanes
- Snow and ice sculptures (illuminated at night)
- Snow maze
- Children's ski lessons (ages 5–8, weekends)
- Obstacle course

- Food vendors (BeaverTails, hot chocolate)
Entry to Snowflake Kingdom is free. Some premium attractions (zip line ~15) have fees.
A free Sno-Bus shuttle service runs during Winterlude between downtown Ottawa, Confederation Park, and Jacques-Cartier Park.
Canada Day
Jacques-Cartier Park is one of the main venues for Canada Day (July 1) celebrations, with live music, dance performances, children's activities, and Canadian Forces SkyHawks parachute demonstrations.
The park is also one of the best spots in the region to watch the Canada Day fireworks — launched from behind Parliament Hill, they're visible across the river with an unobstructed view.
