About the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum
The Canada Agriculture and Food Museum is a working farm located on the Central Experimental Farm, just south of Dow's Lake. It's part of the Ingenium network (alongside the Science and Technology Museum and the Aviation and Space Museum).
Unlike Ottawa's other national museums, this one is largely outdoors — you walk between barns, visit animals in their pens, and learn about Canadian agriculture through hands-on exhibits. It's one of the best family destinations in Ottawa, especially in spring.
What to See
- Barns and Live Animals — Visit cows, horses, sheep, pigs, goats, chickens, rabbits, and more in their barns. Staff are often available to answer questions about the animals
- Spring Baby Animals — From late March through May, many of the farm animals give birth. Seeing newborn lambs, piglets, calves, and chicks is a highlight for families
- Tractor Rides — Seasonal tractor-pulled wagon rides around the farm grounds
- Food Exhibits — Interactive exhibits about where food comes from, Canadian agriculture, and food science
- Central Experimental Farm Grounds — The museum sits within the 400-hectare Central Experimental Farm, which includes gardens, arboretum pathways, and green space open to the public
