About Rockcliffe Park Lookout

The Rockcliffe Lookout offers one of the best panoramic views in Ottawa — a sweeping vista across the Ottawa River to the Gatineau Hills. Managed by the NCC, the lookout sits along the Sir George-Etienne Cartier Parkway in Rockcliffe Park, one of Ottawa's most historic neighbourhoods.

The village of Rockcliffe Park was designed by Thomas Keefer in 1864 following Picturesque planning principles — narrow curving roads without curbs or sidewalks, large lots, and abundant gardens. It was designated a National Historic Site in 2023. The neighbourhood is home to several embassies and Stornoway, the official residence of the Leader of the Official Opposition.

Rockcliffe Rockeries

The Rockcliffe Rockeries are a 2.65-hectare NCC garden adjacent to the lookout, known for spectacular spring colour. Hundreds of thousands of daffodils and flowering trees bloom in early May.

Ottawa River Pathway

The lookout connects to the Ottawa River Pathway, part of the NCC's Capital Pathway network. The eastern section extends approximately 13.5 km from Rockcliffe along the river toward Orleans, passing the Canada Aviation and Space Museum at the 4 km mark.
