Occupying a musical space somewhere between the sophisticated songs of Leonard Cohen, Jacques Brel and Félix Leclerc, the rustic folk of Bob Dylan, Neil Young and Richard Desjardins, the acoustic pop of Simon & Garfunkel, and the haunting melancholy of Nick Drake and Elliott Smith, Philippe B reminds us that depth can be conveyed with nothing more than a guitar and a few words. His seventh album, Cigale, released in March 2026, shows him at his most authentic and personal. Inspired by his own youth, Philippe captures the experience of a musician at the start of his career, struggling to make a living.
Philippe B has been sharing his precious songs with Quebec audiences for over 20 years. Regarded as one of the province’s most brilliant singer-songwriters, the Rouyn-Noranda native moves his listeners with his beautiful melodies, sophisticated arrangements, and disarmingly intimate lyrics. Though a master of the art of autofiction, Philippe B is by no means an enigmatic poet; with simplicity and precision, he expresses universal themes through specific experiences, transforming his songs into mirrors that ultimately reflect a part of ourselves. Whether the subject is romantic relationships, the passage of time, or his native Abitibi, his lyrics are always moving and evocative.
