For Gregório Duvivier, the Portuguese language is not just a homeland but an obsession. Or, as young people say, a hyperfocus. After all, words have been an inexhaustible source of humor since the very beginning. “In the beginning was the Word,” said God. And right after that came the agreement errors. The same God said, “Let there be light.” But to whom did He say it? And why?
The show blends stand-up comedy with spoken poetry and a dramaturgy that ties it all together. Stand-up poetry? Linguistic comedy? Take your pick. Gregório prefers the term in our language: Comédia Poética (poetic comedy).
Directed by actress Luciana Paes, Gregório discovers the power of speech and reminds us that man is nothing more than a talking monkey—and all other differences stem from that.
A phenomenal play, seen by over 200,000 spectators, now comes to Ottawa on a hilarious journey through words and the power of language.
Stand up poetry? Linguistic comedy?
