She may have died in a long-term care facility, but she comes back to life to wreak revenge! Is she a traditional mother or a reactionary mummy? Mommy, that bogeywoman of ideals invented by the mad scientist of theatre, Olivier Choinière, is resurrected as the high priestess of a ceremony sung and rapped by neo-fascist zombies portrayed by remarkable, hyper-energized performers.
A messianic DJ lords it over a stage set that looks like a glitzy bazaar. A pair of narrators straight out of a trashy fairy tale lead a procession of the living dead escorting a bloodthirsty, conspiracy-minded matriarch. In response to the social and climatic upheaval of our time, this macabre horde has resurrected an ancient, regressive and nauseating fantasy from the depths of the earth: the idea that women should stay at home while men work in the fields. Fortunately, there is music! Fans of the Alaclair Ensemble collective may recognize the magic touch of rapper and beatmaker Eman, who composed the music for the ten edgy—and delightful!—songs.
Both funny and ferocious, this political satire—a blend of lip-syncing, singing, dancing, and fake blood—acts as a great collective cure for body and soul. A fiercely timely, hilarious and exhilarating theatrical event.
