This interactive artwork encourages visitors to handle, move, and stack magnetic shapes – moths, butterflies and children’s silhouettes – across a map of the Great Lakes. The map is presented upside down, a reminder that insects do not perceive the world through human – or colonial – boundaries, encouraging us to reconsider familiar geographies from a different perspective.
Through play, participants can imagine themselves taking flight, donning the wings of insects and exploring different ecosystems.
