What’s in a Frame? 200+ Years of Community Portraits

Our upcoming temporary exhibition, What’s in a Frame? 200+ Years of Community Portraits, officially launches on May 15th!

Reflecting on 200+ years, we look to portraits of past and present Ottawa residents. From the first individuals who lived, worked, and made their community here to those whose stories have shaped the Ottawa we know today.

Portraits often capture a particular moment in a person’s life. They can also convey much more about the person’s larger identity and are not always paintings or photographs. The portraits in this exhibition reveal local stories of community, resilience, and diversity, from Ottawa’s beginnings to the present.

Starting this summer, explore our community portraits and discover (y)our Ottawa story.
