Created by Ottawa-based artist Jennifer Macklem with studio assistance from Faezeh Maleki, these three large dragonfly wings reflect the artists’ interest in the natural world. Suspended and sensitive to the movement of visitors throughout space, the wings gently spin, refracting light and inviting closer observation.
Using microscopic details as catalysts for reflection and a way to respond to current ecological predicaments, Macklem derives inspiration from actual scanned dragonfly wings, enlarging and configuring them into complex sculptural pieces to encourage us to reflect on the environment and the living creatures that inhabit it.
