The Rideau Canal transforms into the world's largest skating rink during winter months. This UNESCO World Heritage Site spans 7.8 kilometers (4.8 miles) of accessible skating surface, stretching from downtown Ottawa to Hartwells Locks.

Hours

Heated Change Rooms:

  • Sunday – Thursday: 8 AM – 10 PM
  • Friday – Saturday: 8 AM – 11 PM

  • Free skating on accessible sections
  • Multiple BeaverTails food stands with treats and hot chocolate
  • Dunrobin Distilleries beverages (19+ only)
  • Heated change rooms along the canal

Ice Conditions

The ice must reach 30 cm thickness before opening, typically requiring 10-14 consecutive days of -10°C to -20°C temperatures. Daily condition updates are provided at 7 AM and 1 PM.
